1) Synopsis: A shortened summary of a story.
Plot: The sequence of events in a story.
Exposition: The part of a story in which background information such as the setting and characters are made known.
David with all the courage within him asked Cass to go out with him. She said she was too busy with school and homecoming preparations Cass was not satisfied with just saying no. She wrote a cruel note in English saying she thought David was gay, that she could not believe he would dare come unto her turf to ask her out on a date. When Cass saw David grab the note after class she thought “he wouldn’t be voting her for homecoming queen.” She did not stop to think that the next morning David would hang himself in the tree of his front yard.
Rising Action: Part of the plot in which complications arise.
Two days after David’s death Cass is kidnapped by Kyle Kirby, David’s older brother. Kyle broke into Cass’s bedroom window and injected her with a new type of drug. Without trouble he carried her out into the world unconscious of what was about to happen to her. When Cass awoke she was trapped, underground in a wooden casket she could barely move in. Kyle had buried her alive, in the green house of one of the people he mowed the lawn for.
Climax: The turning point of the story. The highest point of interest and intensity in the plot
After learning about Kyle’s mother Cass figured out that his mother killed him not her. The cruel treatment she offered David his entire life mad pushed him to end his life by committing suicide. Cass laid out the facts to open Kyle’s eyes. To make him realize his own mother; not her, caused David to hang himself. She reminded him that David hung himself in the tree of his front lawn. That he wrote his own note and pinned it to his body. He did not pin Cass’s note to his body, just the one he made. She also reinstated ho everyday his mother would make David’s life unbearable, how he killed himself because he could not handle the nonsense anymore.
Falling Action: The events that occur after the climax. The intensity of the story diminishes and the mysteries are solved.
The cops arrested Kyle after witnessing his act of violence towards his mother. He was trying to kill her the same way David killed himself; by hanging her. The police men questioned him and were told where Cass was located . When they found her she was rushed to the hospital. To Cass it seemed like months were passing by. Her parents kept sending her different seasonal adornments every so often. When she was told Kyle was in jail she did not believe it, because she was not called to his trial. Cass felt the need to attend Kyle’s trial so the truth of what happened may be put to the light. She wanted Kyle to stay behind bars forever. She wants to have him punished for burying her alive without mercy.
