6) Tone: The author's attitde towards the subject.
The tone of the story is sorrow and full of anger. When Kyle explains the life of his brother sadness is portrayed. As well as when Cass describes her pain in the casket, and her past experiences with her mother. She never told her mother how much she loved her. She did not beg her to stay or even called her when she left to Louisiana. When Kyle talks of the revenge he wants to carry out towards Cass and then his mother he displays sentiments of anger. Even Cass when she is in the hospital recovering displays anger when thinking of going to Kyle's trial to testify and make sure he is locked behind bars forever.
7) Mood: The feeling the author creates for the reader.
The mood created in the story is fear. When Ted McBride discovers that his only daughter Cass has been kidnapped he becomes frantic. He can't understand why anybody would want to hurt his daughter. He fears that she might be killed and has a mini episode of a panic attack. When Cass awakes in the casket fear overwhelms her. She starts to panic when she doesnt feel her silky bedsheets under her, when around her a hard surface does not allow her to move. Noticing the smell of garden and the foot steps above her, Cass becomes terrified. She kicks, screams and tears run down her cheeks. Her brain won't function correctly knowing that someone that knows her put her in a casket to torture her.
